The San Juan Island is one of the 172 islands in the Salish Sea that are located about 90 miles north of Seattle. The islands are sheltered by the rain shadow of the Olympic Peninsula and tout 247 days of sunshine and about half of the rainfall of nearby Seattle.

The three most popular are San Juan Island, Orcas and Lopez that are accessible year round by ferries and float planes. The islands offer a diversity of attractions, abundance of wildlife and activities like hiking, kayaking and biking to art galleries and shopping.

Experience nature at its finest from our resident Orca Whales, Bald Eagles, sea otters, seals, fox, deer and marine life. One of the most popular summer activities is whale watching aboard a tour boat or pack a picnic and visit Limekiln Park, also nicknamed Whale Watch Park.

The San Juan’s are rich in history and Friday Harbor is celebrating its Centennial (1909-2009) and the San Juan Island National Historical Park is commemorating the 150th anniversary of the beginnings of the Pig War. Visit the Historical Museum, English Camp, hike the beaches of American Camp and the kids especially enjoy the Whale Museum.
